We’re Gonna Party Like Its Your Birthday!

Monday, May 31st, 2010

What’s a great dining choice for a birthday…pizza of course. Tomorrow night we’re continuing the search for Grand Rapids’ best locally owned restaurant at Big O’s on Ottawa. It has to be one of the most quaint restaurants in all of downtown. Known for their fantastic specialty pizzas like the Dead Head Vegetarian and Blue Cheese & Walnut, Big O’s comes highly recommended, and rumor has it they have live music on Tuesdays.

If you have any recommended menu items for us, leave a comment and let us know. And, be sure to check back for our reviews and photos…or, feel free to come along. The more the merrier!

Kopper Top Tuesday!

Monday, May 24th, 2010

We’re so excited to kick off our search for Grand Rapids’ best local restaurant, and the first stop is…(insert drumroll)… The Kopper Top! It came highly recommended and after doing some research, I can’t wait to check out this eclectic establishment. The photos give off the vibe of a very fun atmosphere, and I’ve heard the food is fantastic. Feel free to comment and let us know if there are any specific menu items that we must order.

After our visit we’ll post our photos and reviews, so be sure to check back. In the meantime, you can learn a little more about this piece of west side history by checking out this article via Rapid Growth.

6 goals of the game

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

In our search we have 6 simple goals. Even if we only accomplish a few each week, we’ll still have won the game. How can you go wrong with great company, great food, and a great time?

1. Have fun
2. Support local business
3. Let people know about local restaurants
4. Meet some good people
5. Spend time with friends
6. Find the best LOCAL food

Requirements for the search

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Its pretty simple. We’re looking for restaurants that have the following qualities…. The restaurant must be locally owned. There can be a few locations in the Grand Rapids area, but we want local roots. Second, the price range should be somewhere around $10 per entree. Of course if its cheaper than that, we won’t be complaining. And lastly, the restaurant must be located in west Michigan, roughly within 20 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids.

We’ve got a list of potential places, but we’re always open to new suggestions. Feel free to send us a list of your favorite places!

How it all began….

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

We could never decide where to go for dinner, but always wanted to try someplace new. Because we weren’t familiar with many local restaurants we would commonly stick with safe chains. One day in our search for food we decided we were going to eat at the third restaurant on the left no matter what that restaurant was. This had become our method of trying new places for a few years but after while we slipped back into our safe haven of chain food. After stopping by local restaurants like Taco Bob’s, where the owner is working behind the counter and enjoys going to work everyday, we realized it’s not just the food that makes a restaurant, but also the people and how they interact with us as consumers. From this conversation stemmed the search for the best local food. Do join us on our adventure.
