A Little Piece of History

We had an opportunity to visit one of the oldest establishments in all of Ottawa County and it came to us in the form of a little gem called Turks Inn.

Located right off the Nunica exit on I-96, Turks has been a staple in area for over 75 years. The original owner, Turk Allison, opened Turks shortly after the end of prohibition. Now being one of the oldest eateries in the area, Turk is no longer the owner, but the name stuck. Current owners, Frances and Roger Holmes bought Turks 25 years ago and they’ve kept the old school charm in tact. You’ll still see some of the original wood carvings that were used in the restaurant back in the 1930’s.

On this particular trip we ordered the Original Hamburger and the Turkey Club with a side of onion rings for a total of $12, which is a pretty good deal for two dinners. This was our second trip to Turks and overall we’ve had pretty good food both times. I will say the onion rings were a little soft this time around, but it wouldn’t stop me from going back.

Turks is one of the more charming restaurants in town. The atmosphere immediately draws you back in time. Next time you’re in the area, or out for a Sunday drive, be sure to stop in and check it out.
