The Twisted Rooster

I’m thrilled to report that last week we went to the Twisted Rooster and had our largest group to date. We were able to bring a party of 16 into an establishment on a Tuesday night! Yeah Local GR Eats!

Twisted Rooster is located on the East Beltline in the restaurant formerly known as O’Charley’s. We were drawn to the establishment because of the unique twist on menu items, and the fact that they buy locally.

“As a midsized independent operator, we have significant advantages that include the flexibility to support local vendors, freedom of creativity in developing our menus and atmosphere, and the ability to design a restaurant that reflects the interests and demographics of the community,” states Erik East, Operations Director.

At Local GR Eats we normally try to support the little guy. The Twisted Rooster is larger than the average Local GR Eats restaurant stop, but we felt they were worth checking out.

Overall our entire party thought the food was great. Some real standouts included the Cheese & Spinach dip, Twisted Mac & Cheese, Calamari, and the Southwest Nachos.

With such a large party we were able to try a ton of appetizers, entrĂ©es, and desserts and I honestly don’t think there was a bad item on the table. Below you’ll see the Twisted Mac & Cheese, the Twisted Kawada Dog, and the Twisted Veggie Stack. So good!!

For dessert, how about this Michigan Cherry Pineapple Cobbler…yum!

We found the staff to be extremely friendly, and very accommodating to such a large group. The manager on duty took some time to chat with us about how Twisted Rooster uses local fruits and vegetables in their menu, and how business has been going.

The atmosphere at Twisted Rooster is nice, but it does have more of a chain feel than any of the other places we’ve visited. I think its because they are located in a former chain building, and they are much larger than the other restaurants we’ve visited. We find that most locally owned restaurants are either very sparse, or full of personality and tradition.

Overall, I would definitely go back to the Twisted Rooster. The flare put into the menu makes it an interesting choice. It would be a great stop for a first date, a lunch business meeting, or dinner with friends.

In closing, I’d like to remind readers of the “Commit to the Mitt” slogan on the Twisted Rooster menu…”Our menu is guided by locally grown product offerings that change throughout the season.” Keeping it local…I think that’s pretty cool.
